Guided by the obsessive mantra "there's always a gate, there's always a path, there's always a carriage," he abandons his comfortable life to pursue this vision that has haunted his sleep for months.

When he finally discovers the impossible—a pristine vintage railway carriage sitting incongruously among ancient trees—he boards it only to encounter Alicia, a woman from his past who had warned him not to follow.
